History

Abando started in 2008 as the first open meeting for furries in Brazil. Due to the unconventional setting of a camping con, we started modestly with only 15 campers but in our third year we got 37 campers.

The Brazilian fandom is still relatively small but growing fast, and we are expecting 50 attendees in 2011. This may sound like it's not much, but we'll be living together for these few days and you'll discover that it's just right.

We've got some unprecedented momentum both on the fandom and on Abando, and we're introducing lots of new stuff this year. Don't miss this opportunity to both get to know Brazil and to make part of this great country's history of the furries!

First, let's watch a small video summarizing all the 3 years:

From WikiFur:

The idea of Abando started during a discussion at the "Furry Brasil" forums, when WToboe asked if any furry conventions existed in Brazil. Reyres and Ekevoo started to consider the possibility of putting one on. One year later, Reyres recruited the first team, comprised of six volunteers.

The main idea of Abando is to promote a healthy place to camp, similar to Camp Feral!, with outdoor activities such as bodypainting, frisbee, foam bat battles, water-balloon rugby, and other games involving water. Programming has also included drawing classes, videogames, a pizza factory and bingo. The farm is peaceuful, and big enough to feature a nice natural lake.
